For those of you who have never heard of Windstar or are considering a cruise with them but want to know more about it, I would like to share some of my experience from our New Year’s Eve sail onboard the Windstar Legend.
The Accommodations
Let me say that when I walked into our room, I had to control my delight.
The staterooms on this small craft are surprisingly spacious. There is a sleeping area and a living area. The bed was comfortable, with two pillows each and the fluffiest duvet, night tables and reading lights on each side. There is a cozy couch, and a bistro chair and table set should you decide to have full in-room service. None of this is crowded space. You have the option of a balcony (no chairs) but to be honest, an ocean view suite would be just as nice. I found our room nice and quiet at night.
There is a spacious walk-in closet where the light automatically shuts off and comes on with the door closure (nice eh!), housecoats (a must for me! and slippers) an umbrella and of course a safe. Did I mention free laundry? This is a bonus and will be so helpful in reducing what you must pack. Now you can shop more!
The bathroom, oh my, the bathroom! Two sinks so you are not elbowing for hygiene time, a spacious shower with shampoo, conditioner and body wash, rain shower head and normal shower head, and lots of storage space. They will include face cloths which is not a given in Europe.
Each day they fill your water pitcher, and you can choose to have fresh fruit topped up as well (apples, grapes, oranges) but the food on board is so good you probably won’t need it. There is a mini bar in the room as well and if you have the appropriate drink package, it is included.
The Food
I would have to say the food was very good (ask my waistline). Since we were in Spain there was a lot of seafood, which to be honest, I am not big on. But rest assured I was well fed, too well-fed LOL
If you are in fact a seafood lover, welcome to heaven. Cuadro 44 is your place. This is a Spanish communal table type restaurant (like tapas) and they have such a variety of well-presented seafood delicacy dishes. There were non-seafood dishes as well that were delicious as well. A must visit restaurant.
The main dining room opens at 7:00 and they know what they are doing. The portion sizes are nice and there is a good variety of dishes. We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experiences each time. The wine selection (mostly from Europe and USA) on board was good for those who enjoy a nice glass of vino.
Breakfast in the Veranda has the best omelets, waffles, pastries, lattes, fruits, and yogurt. A great start to the day.
And we also had burgers and hot dogs on board for lunch. How great is that! For salad lovers, every lunch buffet has them. Eat all you want. Lunch options were fantastic, never boring for options!
They also had great gluten free options at the buffet and pre-ordering special dietary requirements can be arranged for the main dining.
And the dress code, there is none really. No need for dress pants guys! It is quite relaxing. What I normally wore on a cruise ship was over the top here.
The Spa
There is a free spa on board that we did take advantage of. There are 4 heated ceramic beds, a steam sauna and a dry sauna along with a mood light shower. They also offer (for a fee) massage and acupuncture… services that you can read about when you get on board. But you definitely have to try the free spa services!
Walking/Exercise
You can walk on the outside of the ship. Early mornings and after dinner are nice ways to start and end your day. Or use the gym machines for a change of pace. They have morning yoga as well (for free!)
You can also visit the bridge during your walk when the sign is out. YES! Join the officers in their work environment. Our captain was super friendly.
From the accommodations to the food and spa services, each aspect on the Windstar Legend makes for a truly unforgettable cruise.
