Munich – Regensburg – Nuremburg

Arrive at Munich International Airport and gather our luggage. Meet our local Tour Director and Driver and depart for Regensburg. Once we arrive, we will have time for lunch (not included) and to visit the Christmas Markets. Regensburg, nestled in the heart of Bavaria, is no stranger to great fests and markets. Throughout the whole year, you can find traditional German festivals calling crowds from all over. However, it’s the city’s Christmas Markets that make it truly a must-visit.

Instead of one, large market, Regensburg has upwards of 6 markets throughout it’s picturesque, easy-to-walk streets. The city is extremely easy to get around; you can get from one market to the next in just a matter of minutes.

Later this afternoon we depart for Nuremburg for our overnight stay. Once we check in, we will have a group dinner and then free time to explore or catch up on some sleep.

Monday, November 30th

Enjoy a complimentary breakfast and meet with your Tour Director. This morning we have a guided tour of Nuremburg as we explore the medieval city center with a tour that showcases the Imperial Castle and the famous town wall, as well as Albrecht Dürer’s home and Market Square with its legendary fountain. We will also discover the city’s WWII history, including a visit to the infamous Zeppelin Field, a museum built on the site of former Nazi rallies.

This afternoon you will have free time to visit the Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt which is arguably Germany’s most famous Christmas market. The Christmas market on Nuremberg’s Main Market Square can be traced back to documents first mentioning it in the year 1628, but Nurembergers believe it dates back even further. Keeping the tradition is important, and the majority of stalls selling their wares sell things that are all made regionally. Even the wooden stalls themselves are made of regionally sourced spruce, and at least 30 of the wooden huts themselves were originally constructed in 1890.

This evening is free to have dinner (not included) and explore the city on your own.

Nuremburg – Rothenburg ob der Tauber – Stuttgart

Enjoy a complimentary breakfast and meet with your Tour Director.  This morning we check out and travel to Rothenburg on der Tauber. Known for its medieval setting, Rothenburg is a walled city that has been left largely untouched for hundreds of years. Visiting is like stepping into a time warp. The town boasts some of the most impressive medieval architecture in Europe. Its medieval stage is home to the annual “Reiterlesmarkt,” the Rothenburg Christmas Market named after a local Teutonic legend, which began during pre-Christian times as the story of a horrid rider who carried the souls of the dead. As Christianity swept through Europe, the figure developed from a wild man into a loving, gentle man who gave gifts to all people on earth.

Later this afternoon we travel to Stuttgart and check in at our host hotel for the next two nights. This evening we will have a group dinner followed by an evening visit to the Stuttgart Christmas Market. Evening is the best time to visit, when the air is crisp and the market is aglow. Stuttgarter Weihnachtsmarkt dates back to the 1600s and is famous for being one of the oldest, not only in Germany, but in all of Europe! You’ll find hundreds of beautifully decorated stalls filled with traditional handmade toys, German food, and holiday sweets. Most importantly, you’ll find an abundance of Germany’s signature holiday beverage: Glühwein.

Enjoy a complimentary breakfast and meet with your Tour Director. This morning we have a morning tour of Stuttgart.

Arches and gates made of thousands of tiny light bulbs welcome the visitors to the over 170 Christmas booths and majestic angels spread their glittering wings to bless the scene. The two baroque churches are festively illuminated. The typical symmetry of a baroque city and garden architecture was the model for the layout of the Ludwigsburg Christmas market. Breathe in the scents of mulled wine, roasted chestnuts and gingerbread, take in festive concerts, marvel at the uniquely decorated market stalls and the adorned stalls offering traditional arts and crafts that make perfect presents.

Later this afternoon we return to Stuttgart for a free night to have dinner (not included) and explore the city.
