Our river cruise tour begins in Budapest which includes a mix of touring time and free time to explore before boarding the stunning AmaViola, an Amawaterways ship. Built in 2016, this ship features high-end cuisine, exciting included excursions, and included beer, wine, soft drinks and more allowing you to relax and really make the most of your adventure with us.

With jaw-dropping port stops every day you will visit Slovakia, Austria, Germany, and the Czech Republic. You can choose to explore them at your pace or join an excursion such as a walking tour, biking tour or even a hike! History abounds in these European ports and you will be humbled by the age and significance of the cities you will visit. Upon return we enjoy a three night stay in Prague before our return flights home.

Friday, October 16th

Flight to Budapest, Hungary

Depart from select Maritime cities (Charlottetown, Halifax, Moncton, or Fredericton) on your overnight flight to Budapest. Try and get some sleep before your afternoon arrival in Budapest. A light meal and breakfast will be served on board the flight.

Saturday, October 17th

 Budapest, Hungary

Arrive at Budapest Airport and gather our luggage. Enjoy an included 2-course lunch at the hotel before an orientation tour of the local area where you will be able to see some of the city’s dazzling sites including Parliament and Liberty Square, Opera House and the river Danube with its iconic bridges. You’ll finish your first day enjoying a 3-course welcome dinner in a nearby restaurant.

Sunday, October 18th

Budapest, Hungary

Enjoy a complimentary breakfast and meet with your Tour Director. Today will be a treat for the senses!
Budapest is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful cities of Europe. Enjoy a half-day guide-accompanied tour of both Buda and Pest. Castle Hill and Memento Park are highlights of cultural and artistic significance – don’t forget your camera. Following the tour you will have free time to explore at your leisure. This evening dinner will be on your own (not included).

Monday, October 19th

 Board the AmaViola

Enjoy a complimentary breakfast and meet with your Tour Director. Late this morning we will check out of the hotel and have free time to explore before making our way to the Budapest Cruise Dock. Embarkation time is 3:00 pm. We will board the AmaViola and begin our Blue Danube journey.

Tuesday, October 20th

 Bratislava, Slovakia

Host to the crowning ceremonies of 11 Hungarian kings and queens between 1536 and 1830, Bratislava certainly has earned the title “Coronation City of Kings” as you’ll discover during your walking tour. Or join a culinary host to sample traditional Slovakian specialties, as well as learn how to prepare stuffed potato ravioli with an opportunity to taste your own creation. For a more active adventure, hike up to Bratislava Castle, offering magnificent views of the city.

Wednesday, October 21st

 Vienna, Austria

The “City of Waltzes” offers a treasure trove of gems and your city tour showcases its regal splendors, including the majestic Opera House and the former Imperial Palace of the Habsburgs. Conclude your tour in Vienna’s historic city center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and then visit St. Stephen’s Cathedral. For a more active exploration of the area, take a guided bike ride. During the afternoon, enjoy leisure time exploring this iconic city even more.

Thursday, October 22nd

 Dürnstein – Melk, Austria

After reaching the Wachau Valley in the morning, you’ll have a choice of three excursions in Dürnstein. Partake in a walking tour along cobblestone streets to the luminous blue facade of the Baroque Stiftskirche, its famed church tower, before enjoying a wine tasting in a local cellar. For a beautiful view of the Wachau Valley, hike up to the fortress where Richard the Lionheart was once held. Alternatively, visit a local boutique, where you’ll be treated to the region’s finest apricot products. After your morning excursions, you have a choice to cruise through the Wachau Valley to Melk or join a bike tour along the Danube. Upon reaching Melk, take a tour of the UNESCO-designated Melk Abbey.

Friday, October 23rd

 Passau, Germany

Enjoy a scenic morning sailing to the medieval city of Passau. Join a walking tour through this 2,000-year-old city, noted for its Gothic and Italian Baroque architecture and St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Guests looking for a more active morning can choose between a guided bike tour along the Danube, or a guided hike up to the Veste Oberhaus Fortress overlooking Passau.

Saturday, October 24th

 Regensburg, Germany

Explore Regensburg, one of Germany’s best-preserved medieval cities and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, on a guided walking tour showcasing the city’s architectural highlights, including the Old Town Hall and the Porta Praetoria, gates to an ancient Roman fort built in 179 A.D. As an alternate option, sample some of Bavaria’s specialties— beer, sausage and pretzels; or bike to Walhalla where you’ll see the neo-Classical white marble temple inspired by the Parthenon in Athens.

Sunday, October 25th

 Nuremburg, Germany

Enjoy a scenic morning cruise as the ship crosses the Continental Divide via the Main-Danube Canal to Nuremberg. Explore the medieval city center with a tour that showcases the Imperial Castle and the famous town wall, as well as Albrecht Dürer’s home and Market Square with its legendary fountain. Or you can take a guided tour of the city’s WWII history, including a visit to the infamous Zeppelin Field, a museum built on the site of former Nazi rallies and the site of the Nuremberg Trials when not in session. Alternatively, savor traditional Franconian specialties by sampling famously delicious Nuremburger Bratwurst, Rot bier (red beer) and Lebkuchen (gingerbread).

Monday, October 26th

Nuremburg, Germany – Prague, Czech Republic

After breakfast on board the ship we will disembark and meet our local English-speaking guide and transfer to Prague where we will check in to our hotel for a three- night stay.
This evening will be at your leisure to have dinner (not included) at a local restaurant.

Tuesday, October 27th

 Prague, Czech Republic

Enjoy a complimentary breakfast and meet with your Tour Director. This morning we will be joined by an expert Local Guide for a half-day guided tour of Prague. During our tour we will explore the history of this centenary city and bask in the beautiful sights of the Wenceslas Square, National Opera, Jewish Quarter amongst others. Entrance to Prague Castle is included during the tour. Following the tour you will have a chance to explore Prague at your leisure. Dinner will be on your own (not included) this evening.

Wednesday, October 28th

 Prague, Czech Republic

Enjoy a complimentary breakfast and meet with your Tour Director. Today is a free day to explore Prague as you wish. This evening we will enjoy a concert of classical music in a beautiful historical venue with amazing acoustics. Afterwards, enjoy a flavourful farewell meal to reminisce on the amazing journey to date.

Thursday, October 29th

 Return Home

Enjoy a complimentary breakfast and meet with your Tour Director. This morning we check out of the hotel and make our way to Prague Airport. Depart on our transatlantic flight for Toronto or Montreal. Once we clear customs in Toronto or Montreal we will find our departure gates for our return flights to select Maritime cities (Charlottetown, Halifax, Moncton, or Fredericton). Say goodbye to your Tour Director and your newfound friends from your Blue Danube River Cruise.
