Itinerary

Day 1-5

Your journey begins with your flight from North America to Tokyo for your four night stay. The next few days feature immerssive cultural and agricultural experiences, including visits to the Tsukiji Fish Outer Market, Skytree, Sensoji Temple, and some unique farm tours exploring urban agriculture. You’ll get to experience Taiko drumming and exploring the Kappabashi district, while also visiting local farms specializing in tomatoes, mustard, and spinach.

Day 6 – 11

Onto the next, your trip takes you through Sendai, Matsushima, and Nagano, featuring diverse agricultural experiences and cultural sites. Highlights include a Matsushima Bay Cruise, visits to beef and vegetable farms, the town of Takayama, and explorations of a safflower dyeing factory and Sake brewery. The journey continues through Matsumoto, where you’ll visit the historic “Crow Castle” and the Daio Wasabi Farm, experiencing local culinary traditions and agricultural practices.

Day 12 – 14

Your itinerary then shifts to Kyoto and Hiroshima, blending historical and cultural experiences with agriculture. In Hiroshima, you will explore the Peace Memorial Museum and Miyajima Island, while in Kyoto you will see to iconic sites like the Golden Pavilion, Ryoanji Temple, and Nijo Castle. The trip includes Sake museum tours, farm visits, and opportunities to understand Japan’s rich agricultural heritage.

Day 15 – 17

The final leg of your adventure takes you through Kinosaki Onsen and Hakone, featuring traditional ryokan stays with hot springs, scenic experiences like the Hakone Ropeway and Lake Ashi cruise, and a farewell dinner. Your trip comes to a close with return flights to home after an exploration of Japan’s agricultural landscapes, cultural sites, historical landmarks, and culinary traditions across multiple regions.

We have taken care of planning most of your trip, where you will have small amounts of free time but no free days during the tour. Our Active tours can include some, or all, of the following; lifting and carrying your own luggage for longer distances at hotels, airports, and/or cruise terminals, accommodations varying from hotels to lodges, with minimal or no access to elevators, longer days, filled with planned activities and travelling, remote or rugged regions with steep hills, uneven terrain, farmland and distinct changes in altitude or temperature, exploring and navigating 5 cities or more by foot, where buses are not permitted, use alternative modes of transportation like bicycles, scooters, safari vehicles, not recommended for persons with conditions or limitations, including canes
Your emergency contact should be someone who is prepared to assist in case you or your travel companion must leave the tour unexpectedly, most commonly due to unexpected medical issues. They should be aware they are your emergency contact, have a copy of your itinerary, as well as a copy of your passport and insurance information. They must be ready, willing and able to travel to be at your bedside. As well, they should be ready, willing and able to assist in transporting you home as needed. This individual will be responsible for contacting your insurance company in the case where you and/or your travel companion are unable to do so yourselves and will require these details in order to assist you in an emergency. If you would like to add or make a change to who you have listed as your emergency contact please contact Target Tours at least 30 days prior to your trip.

Your tour price does not include travel protection. If you have travel protection, we advise you to look into coverage details and confirm if there is a deductible, if you need to pay up front, and where to call for help. We highly recommend medical, trip cancellation and trip interruption coverage. For international tours, if you do not purchase travel protection from us, you are required to provide proof that you have alternate travel protection. By joining one of our tours without sufficient emergency medical coverage, you agree not to hold Target Tours responsible for any costs incurred should an emergency medical situation arise.

After your booking is complete and deposit is paid, you will receive a copy of your receipt from our office and we will follow up with more information and details about your tour such as tour highlights, payment dates and helpful tips. If you have any questions about your tour, our office hours are Monday to Thursday, 8:30am to 4:30pm and Friday 8:30am to 4pm. We are here for you, every step of the way!

Frequently Asked Questions

For Target Tours, a group vacation is a pre-packaged vacation including your transportation, accommodations, meals and activities. We also send a Tour Director with the group to coordinate with suppliers and enhance your experience. These vacations can be booked by single travelers, couples, groups of 3 or more and are intended to offer a safe environment for people to share their experience.

In addition to providing a safe environment, group vacations offer a worry-free travel experience, an opportunity to make last connections with fellow travelers and save some money as well!

Departure locations are subject to change based on the requirements of specific trips. Available departure locations will be visible on each tour when you use our online booking. For a general list of our available departure locations, please click here.

Specific departure times and locations will be shared 2 – 3 weeks before your trip when we have confirmed all guest’s departure locations.

For all trips outside of Canada, you will require a valid passport. Generally, for international travel (outside North America/Caribbean) you will require a passport that will be valid 6 months past the date of departure of your trip. Select destinations may require visas or special entry requirements. Should your trip have such a special entry requirement Target Tours will alert you to this during the booking process and assist in preparing those documents.

It is your responsibility to obtain a valid passport and to bring it with you on your trip and to protect it during travel. Should you neglect to bring your passport on a trip that requires a passport it is your responsibility to arrange your return trip home as you will not be able to continue or complete the trip without this document.

Deposits are non-refundable. Once the final payment is made, the trip becomes fully non-refundable and we highly recommend purchase of Travel Protection to protect your investment. For international trips, if you do not purchase travel protection from us, you are required to provide proof that you have alternate travel protection.

Please note, if one or more persons cancel their reservation in a group, the remaining roommate(s) will be charged as per the new number of passengers sharing the room.

Should Target Tours cancel a trip due to a lack of interest, anyone who is currently signed up for the trip can receive a full refund or transfer their funds to another Target Tours trip (subject to any supplier cancellation fees). As a token of appreciation for choosing us, we will also provide you with a $50 travel credit toward your next trip with Target Tours.

You will be in big (or small) cities with free time to explore and nothing planned. Don’t panic! Our office team can help you book any additional excursions you have interest in during your vacation or you can opt to join your Tour Director for any of their free-time activities (at an additional cost to you). Your Tour Director can also help you find things to do and book them while you’re on vacation.

We do our best to accommodate any special requests. Any accommodations requests (accessible room, adjoining room, cot, etc) must be submitted prior to final payment and are subject to hotel availability.

If you have any dietary needs, including restrictions or allergies, let us know in advance, and we’ll work with our hotels and restaurants to ensure that you have suitable options at every meal!
