If you follow along our social media, you might have seen a “Tips from the Trail” video that John did about emergency contacts.

Thinking about your emergency contact isn’t the most exciting thing in the world, but it’s an absolute necessity. 🌍

And should always be given more than a passing thought.

When the unexpected occurs, you want to ensure the person contacted to assist you is someone you trust to make the right decisions.

Before you provide a travel company with your emergency contact, here are some steps you should take:

1. Consider the person 🧠

Is the person you are choosing someone who is calm and can make rational decisions during a potential traumatic event? Do they have a valid passport, and can travel to you incase of emergency?

2. Make sure they are aware that they are your contact. 📞

The last thing you want is your emergency contact not picking up the phone because they don’t recognize the phone number that is calling them or they are out of the country while you are.

3. Leave them your important information. 📝

Your emergency contact should have a copy of your passport, your insurance information, and your itinerary. In the case of an emergency, your contact may have to call your insurance company on your behalf.

These are some helpful tips in choosing the right person to be your emergency contact.

Remember, your emergency contact can be updated!
